botulinum toxin (botox)
botulinum toxin – better known as “botox” by the majority of people – is a protein from which the bacteria clostridium botulinum is derived. it smoothes wrinkles in the skin by causing specific parts of the surrounding facial musculature to relax. as a consequence of constant conscious or unconscious tensioning of specific mimic musculature, the face, forehead region and eye area can cramp and this can result in a wrinkled or even grumpy appearance. botulinum toxin can also be used in the lower areas of the face, for example in treating upper lip wrinkles, a “turkey neck” or so-called “marionette lines”. when the treatment is carried out correctly, the natural facial expression remains – in contrast to the widely held negative opinion.
furthermore botulinum toxin can also combat severe sweating and hyperhidrosis of the arm pits.
